Dejan Cvetinović je rođen 08. decembra 1967. u Zaječaru. Osnovnu školu završio je u Topoli, a posle drugog razreda, tada usmerenog obrazovanja, dolazi u Beograd, gde završava Matematičku gimnaziju.
Studiranje na Mašinskom fakultetu u Beogradu započinje školske 1987/88. godine. Diplomski rad brani 1992. godine na katedri za vazduhoplovstvo i stiče zvanje diplomirani mašinski inženjer.
Poslediplomske studije na Mašinskom fakultetu u Beogradu upisuje školske 1992/93. godine.
Kao stipendista Ministarstva za nauku i tehnološki razvoj Republike Srbije, u okviru programa razvoja mladog naučno-istraživačkog kadra dolazi u junu 1993. godine u Institut za nuklearne nauke „Vinča”, Laboratoriju za termotehniku i energetiku. Stipendija posle godinu dana prerasta u stalni radni odnos i tu nastavlja da se bavi naučno-istraživačkim radom sve do danas.
Kao stipendista vlade Japana boravi u toj zemlji od 1998. do 2000. na Kjoto Univerzitetu, 2. po rangu Univerzitetu u Japanu, a 26. na svetskoj šangajskoj listi.
Nakon povratka iz Japana brani 05.11.2002. godine magistarski rad na katedri za vazduhoplovstvo Mašinskog fakulteta i time stiče akademsko zvanje magistra tehničkih nauka.
Od dolaska u Institut za nuklearne nauke „Vinča” aktivno učestvuje u realizaciji 14 domaćih naučnih projekata i 4 naučno-istraživačkih projekata međunarodnog karaktera.
Autor i koautor je većeg broja naučnih i stručnih radova i učesnik mnogih domaćih i međunarodnih konferencija i stručnih seminara. Učestvovao u izradi većeg broja stručnih studija, organizovao i izvodio veliki broj kompleksnih termotehničkih ispitivanja na termoenergetskim objektima u zemlji i inostranstvu.
Član je Glavnog odbora Društva termičara Srbije (www.drustvo-termicara.com) i posebno aktivan u delu izdavaštva naučnih časopisa i organizaciji naučnih konferencija.
Član je nacionalnog uređivačkog odbora međunarodnog naučnog časopisa „Thermal Science”, koji prema klasifikacijama spada u kategoriju M23 sa impakt faktorom 0,962 za 2013, kao i glavni i odgovorni urednik domaćeg naučno-stručnog časopisa „Termotehnika”. Učestvuje u organizaciji Međunarodne konferencije „Elektrane” kao potpredsednik organizacionog odbora (od 2006-2014 – ukupno 5 konferencija za redom).

· Member of the Main Board and the Scientific Board of the Society of Thermal Engineers of Serbia (www.drustvo-termicara.com) and is particularly active in publishing scientific journals, organizing scientific conferences and involving younger staff in the work of this scientific and professional association.
· Member of the national editorial board of the international scientific journal "Thermal Science", which according to the classifications, falls into the M22 category with an impact factor of 1.625 for 2020, as well as the editor-in-chief of the respected domestic scientific and professional journal "Termotehnika".
